Problems of Obesity and Health Risks

ObesityAt present, obesity is the second leading cause of death in the United States. It is associated with an increased risk of developing or worsening of over 30 diseases or serious conditions.

Obesity reduces the mobility of a person, this makes physical activity, so the problem worsens and further increases the risk of developing or aggravating some of these conditions. The following is an abbreviated list of diseases affected by obesity:

  • Coronary heart disease.
  • Stroke.
  • Hypertension, high blood pressure.
  • Fatty liver disease.
  • Osteoarthritis.
  • Gout, a disease that affects the joints.
  • Diabetes.
  • Gallbladder disease.
  • Respiratory problems, including sleep apnea.
  • Cancer.
  • Reproductive and gynecological disorders in women.

The problems associated with obesity can affect men and women, adults, adolescents and children. There are differences related to sex and age in the types and incidence of problems associated with obesity, but all morbidly obese people have the same problem: how best to safely reach normal weight.
